Affordable Housing: Update (Part 2)
After the WCPO Cincinnati story aired, many local Cincinnati residents rushed to find ways to help our Ally, Neima Jackson. They even set up a gofundme page to help fund the costs of repairs. You can view the full story from WCPO Channel 9 News below:
How Healthcare Policies Value Money Over Empathy
This past Monday, Neighborhood Allies was contacted by an employee at Mercy West Hospital about a patient who has been out of surgery since the early morning and had no way home. This situation shed light to yet another ongoing issue those with limited resources face that is overlooked by public services.
Getting a State ID: The 14-Step Process.
About three years ago, Neighborhood Allies had a young man in high school come to us for help finding a job. We were eager to help, but quickly realized there was a problem. Our newly found Aly did not own an ID.
Affordable Housing: Update
Eviction:
Neighborhood Allies recently helped a family who was dependent on SSI Disability checks transport their belongings to a storage unit after being evicted. The elderly head of household had been hospitalized with coronavirus, so their rent had gone unpaid. The family tried to file for the CDC’s eviction moratorium to delay the eviction process, but was unapproved as they could not provide evidence that payments were missed due to the coronavirus.
Curtis
Neighborhood Allies met Curtis in a resource fair at the Hamilton County Library. He said he needed help finding transportation from the food pantry to where he was staying. When we picked him up from the pantry, we found out he was staying somewhere at the top of a hill and needed a ride because it was too difficult for him to carry everything back.
Anthony
Neighborhood Allies received a referral for someone who recently had a stroke due to untreated diabetes. He was in a nursing home and in quarantine, so he was restricted from leaving the facilities, even just to go outside. He needed to get things from the grocery store, and since he was unable to leave, we were happy to help.
