Curtis
Neighborhood Allies met Curtis in a resource fair at the Hamilton County Library. He said he needed help finding transportation from the food pantry to where he was staying. When we picked him up from the pantry, we found out he was staying somewhere at the top of a hill and needed a ride because it was too difficult for him to carry everything back. We scheduled another appointment for the following week. After chatting more, we found out he was a homeless diabetic and had no connections to any services because he did not have a state ID. We helped him complete Medicaid, SNAP and Section 8 applications. We then scheduled to meet again later that week. At our next meeting, we went to a local organization to get a voucher to cover the cost of a State ID. After that process was complete, we took Curtis to the Bureau of Motor Vehicles to get his ID. The following week, he came back to the library resource fair. We checked to find that his Medicaid benefits were active and called primary care providers in the area to schedule an initial appointment. He expressed his anxiety of going to the doctor’s appointment and requested a peer support Ally to accompany him. He successfully attended his appointment and received his maintenance medication. He was very thankful and said he would not have been able to connect with these resources without our help.
